I just received my first "complaint" regarding a custom order and I wanted to share the story with everyone to highlight the importance of measuring correctly.
A client ordered a custom design and provided her daughter's measurements but when it arrived she stated it was huge on her daughter. I couldn't understand as my team had never made a mistake like that before. I asked the client to recheck her daughter's measurements and the next set of measurements were a total of 4 INCHES less than the original! Again I was assured that even with that adjustment, the dress was still a lot larger than what was ordered. I went ahead and had another dress made with the NEW measurements and had it shipped overnight at a $65 cost to me. The client did not contact me after she received it and I contacted her 5 days later as she had yet to pay the balance on the dress. I was away on holidays when the original dress was finished and had instructed my team to ship to the client right away so there were no delays even though I had not invoiced her for the remaining balance due. I believe in honesty and honoring your obligations so I trusted this client to pay the balance upon receipt of the dress. However, according to the client the dress was still too big and my designs were not suited for skating dresses??? The original dress had been returned and the measurements of the dress matched the provided measurements perfectly so obviously the client did not measure correctly either time and there was no way I was ever going to please her!
PLEASE read my instructions on how to measure correctly to avoid a disappontment. I strive for 100% client satisfaction but I cannot make a dress fit if the measurements you provide are wrong.
